How reminders work, and how to stop them

Last reviewed 26 September 2026

Paraph reminds anyone who hasn't signed after 3 days, then 4 days later, then 7 days after that, up to 3 times. You can remind someone yourself, turn reminders off for a document, and anyone you send to can stop their own from a link in the reminder.

Who gets reminded

Anyone on the document who hasn't signed yet, whose turn it is, and whose link hasn't expired. Nobody who has signed or declined is reminded, and nor is anyone waiting their turn on a document signed in order.

Reminding someone yourself

From the document's page you can send a reminder straight away, without waiting for the schedule. It doesn't count towards the automatic ones. To avoid flooding anyone, a person can't be reminded twice within 20 hours.

If somebody never got the email at all, send the request again instead: that sends a fresh link rather than a message saying they were sent one before.

Turning reminders off for a document

On the document's page you can switch reminders off, and on again. Useful when somebody has told you they'll sign on Monday.

When a signer stops them

Every reminder has a link to stop reminders. It opens a page with a button, so a mail scanner opening the link can't switch reminders off by itself. Once somebody stops them:

  • they get no more automatic reminders for that document;
  • you can't send them one either, and the button says why;
  • you are emailed to say they asked;
  • it is recorded on the document's audit trail.

You can still send the request again, or contact them yourself.
